“ White Dog cafe is one of my favorites, but this was my first time coming to dinner. I was very impressed and pleasantly surprised. The quality of the food was so good. I definitely recommend the Kennett Square mushroom soup . But everything was so tasty. I got the salmon and I really enjoyed it. Others in my group got the lamb shank and filet mignon and also liked their food. Overall, the service was good and they are very consistent with that. It has an ambience that is an old school traditional with a modern flare. You can dress up, but if you are a little casual, you won't be out of place. overall, this is a place that I would recommend for an American style dinner. They also do a really good job with their brunch menu ”

“ Dogs are everywhere, before you even walk in the door, from statues to door handles to pictures to toilet paper holders, so that was fun. I had lunch there Friday with my son's family and it was a very enjoyable meal. The 4 grandkids shared 3 meals, 2 from the kids menu, where the chicken tenders were a bigger hit than the pasta. Third meal for them was the footlong hotdog, which was as big around as a bratwurst and was much enjoyed, although they would have preferred plain fries to the truffle ones. DIL had French onion soup and a Caesar salad and she was pleased. Son had the burger which was large so his wife was surprised he ate the whole thing. I had the lunch combo with mushroom soup and tuna melt. If having a combo and you want your soup to come out first you have to ask as they generally bring that whole meal at once. It was very good, but I would have liked larger pieces of mushrooms in the soup. Ended up taking home half my sandwich as it was a lot of food. Service was very good. Holiday decorations were fun so it was a good time of year to go there. ”

“ Well, this was my first time here, and I've lived in the area for 6 years! And it was just as good as I'd hoped, or at least my brain at 23:00 (11 PM for the unenlightened to the glory of 24-hour time) thought. The bread arrived first, with butter and honey, and this meal unchanged in 10,000 years was still pretty darn good. Our waiter, Jonathan, was really nice to us, even after we returned the mac and cheese twice because it was, in the words of my sister, "tepid." I got a Queen's Cut 12 oz prime rib with truffle fries, and I absolutely housed it. The ambiance had plenty of dog pictures, and after the bar mitzvah in a neighboring room was done, the music turned back on. It was so good that I asked for the rest of my truffle fries in a box. I wish Yelp had six stars, because I would give this place all six of them! ”

“ "Do we really need reservations?" I asked my friend. (It was Tuesday afternoon, 1:30-ish.) Yep! The place was hopping. Vacillating over what to order I decided on the lunch combo: an open face tuna melt with "Green Meadow farm bacon" on toasted sourdough. It came with field greens and a ramekin of soup. The sandwich was okay. Likely a one time deal for me. But the soup?! Mushroom soup with chives and truffle creme fraiche. A bowl with a hunk of crusty buttered bread is my idea of a perfect lunch. Five stars for the beet and arugula salad, prepared with goat cheese, herb creme fraiche and crisp polenta croutons. It's my friend's go-to dish, without even looking at the menu. White Dog Cafe is beautifully decorated. A great setting for "ladies that lunch." At $13 a glass, wine is more than I'd like to spend for a mid-day meal. But hey, that's me. ”

“ This place is great, although expensive, but perfect for a special dinner. I really appreciate how Philly restaurants have outposts in the surrounding suburbs that are easily accessible without having to go all the way into the city. The white dog has plenty of parking out front, some limited outdoor seating that I wouldn't bother with since it's practically in the parking lot, and three separate areas indoors to dine. They have a bar area and booths, a bright and cheery area with many tables for two, and a section further in the back where I've seen large parties sitting. I never really focus so much on the surroundings and decor in my yelp reviews, but here I felt like it was necessary, since their whole brand is built around quirky dog decorations in cozy spaces. Their food is very good, better than other places you'll find in the area, but again be ready to pay. Generally the cheapest entree on the menu costs $29. Their menu changes seasonally, and they always have delicious and innovative things to order. In the fall I've gotten calamari and a short rib dish, and this past weekend I got the spicy lamb bolognese (it wasn't particularly spicy) with a teeny little blob of pesto ricotta on top. It was very rich and delicious. My boyfriend got the double cheddar burger with truffle parm fries (not pictured), which he said were very good. That I think is available year round, along with their meatloaf which is also tasty. ”
